SEMICON Taiwan 2022 Technology Elite Leader President: Let Taiwan's semiconductor industry reach a new peak

President Tsai Ing-wen said today that the semiconductor industry is the core of the plan to make Taiwan a major force in the global economy. Under the joint cooperation of industry, government, academia and research, it will cultivate talents and develop technologies to maintain its strategic advantage in this field. She believes that with many companies in the entire industry chain, they will be able to use technology development trends to make Taiwan's semiconductor industry reach a new peak.
President Tsai delivered a speech in English at the "SEMICON Taiwan 2022 Technology Elite Leaders Dinner" in the evening, saying that the International Semiconductor Exhibition will enter its 27th year this year, continue to promote cooperation, and highlight the latest industry trends and opportunities, which are not only important to Taiwan It is also a key driving force for the progress and growth of the global semiconductor industry.
She said that this year's International Semiconductor Exhibition is the largest since it was held in 1995. There are more than 700 exhibitors and more than 2,400 booths. Coupled with the excellent performance of Taiwan's semiconductor industry's output value growth of 26.7% last year, it shows that the future will be better.
The president said the semiconductor industry continues to thrive amid unprecedented global challenges in the recent past, including supply chain uncertainties. New challenges continue to emerge to this day, making the situation even more unstable. As always, the government will work closely with industry to navigate this challenging time. Taiwan has demonstrated time and again the resilience and resilience that can overcome difficulties and ensure that the domestic semiconductor industry maintains its world-leading position.
The president said that Taiwan has the most complete semiconductor ecosystem, the world's largest foundry and packaging and testing industry, and the second largest IC design industry. When it comes to cutting-edge wafers, Taiwan is also in the lead. Taiwan produces 70% of the world's wafers below 7nm and is at the forefront of 2nm process research and development.
She said the government continued to encourage and promote investment in the domestic semiconductor industry to maintain its outstanding achievements. It is great to see Sipin, a major domestic packaging and testing company, announce that it has invested more than US$3 billion to set up a factory in central Taiwan. In July of this year, she also visited the impressive new Taichung factory of Micron.
The President expressed the hope that these new plants and equipment, as well as recent investments from domestic and foreign manufacturers including TSMC, Nanya Technology, NSMC, and German semiconductor material giant Merck, will create high-quality job opportunities and further consolidate Industrial clusters in Taiwan.
In order to invest in the future of this key industry, the government and universities, in cooperation with the private sector, have established several semiconductor colleges, dedicated to nurturing more talents and enhancing R&D capabilities to ensure the sustainable development of the industry, she said.
The president said that the government will continue to cooperate with the industry to promote innovation and push semiconductor technology to the extreme. The semiconductor industry is the core of the plan to make Taiwan a major force in the global economy. To maintain Taiwan's strategic advantage in this field.
The President explained that semiconductors are the core of future technology. Whether it is artificial intelligence, next-generation communications, electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and smart manufacturing, they all rely on chips produced by various companies. It is believed that many companies in the entire industry chain will be able to use the technology development trend to make Taiwan's semiconductor industry reach a new peak.
